How to Use SummarizeIt to Items

Prerequisites

Before you begin using SummarizeIt to Items, please ensure you have:

  • Admin or owner permissions in your monday.com workspace
  • At least one Workdoc created in your workspace
  • A board where you want to add the summarized items

Note: SummarizeIt to Items works with all monday.com plans, but some features may require specific plan types.

Required Permissions

When installing SummarizeIt to Items, you'll be asked to grant the following permissions:

On monday.com, SummarizeIt to Items will be able to:

  • Read all of your boards data
  • Read user's documents
  • Read general information about your account
  • Post or edit updates on your behalf
  • Read your profile information
  • Read the profile information of the users in your account

Why we need these permissions: These permissions allow SummarizeIt to Items to access your Workdocs for summarization, identify the boards where you want to create items, and post the summarized content as updates or items. We only access the data necessary to provide the app's functionality.

Installation

Follow these steps to install SummarizeIt to Items:

  1. Access the monday.com Marketplace:

    Click on the marketplace icon in the top right corner of your monday.com workspace.

  2. Search for SummarizeIt to Items:

    In the search bar, type "SummarizeIt to Items" and press Enter.

  3. Install the App:

    Click on the SummarizeIt to Items app card, then click the "Install" button.

  4. Review Permissions:

    Review the permissions requested (as detailed in the previous section) and click "Authorize" to complete the installation.

Pro Tip: If you don't see the app in the marketplace, try refreshing your browser or clearing your cache.

Using SummarizeIt to Items

After installation, you can start using SummarizeIt to Items right away:

You can access SummarizeIt to Items from three different views in monday.com:

1. From a Workdoc

  1. Open any Workdoc in your monday.com workspace
  2. Click on the "AI assistant" button in the toolbar
  3. Select "SummarizeIt to Item from Workdoc" from the dropdown menu

2. From a Board

  1. Open any Board in your monday.com workspace
  2. Click on the three dots "..." menu in the toolbar
  3. Select "AI Assistant" and then "SummarizeIt to Item from Board"

3. From an Item (Comment)

  1. Open any Item in your monday.com workspace
  2. Click on the AI Assistant icon in the comment toolbar
  3. Select "SummarizeIt to Item from Comment" from the dropdown menu

Generating a Summary

  1. Access SummarizeIt:

    Access SummarizeIt to Items from any of the three views described above.

  2. Select Doc or Board/Item:

    Choose the content source you want to summarize.

  3. (Optional) Review and Edit Content:

    Review the content to be summarized and edit if needed without updating the original document.

  4. Summarize and Review:

    Click the "SummarizeIt" button and review the generated summary.

  5. (Optional) Resummarize if Needed:

    If you want to modify the summary, you can edit the content and click "ReSummarizeIt" to generate a new summary.

  6. Post to Item:

    Click the "PostIt to Item" button to add the summary to your selected item.

Troubleshooting

Encountering issues? Here are solutions to common problems:

App Not Appearing in Menu

If you don't see SummarizeIt to Items in the AI Assistant menu:

  • Refresh your browser
  • Ensure the app is properly installed
  • Check that you have the necessary permissions

Summary Generation Failed

If the summary generation fails:

  • Check that your content isn't empty
  • Ensure the content isn't too large (max 5,000 words for Enterprise plan)
  • Try again after a few minutes

Can't Post to Item

If you can't post the summary to an item:

  • Verify you have write permissions for the selected item
  • Check your subscription status if you've reached your monthly limit
  • Ensure the summary isn't empty
